Blood Pressure

One client joined my program, she gave her details and mentioned no ailment in the column. She also mentioned blood pressure medicines in the prescribed medicine column. On being asked she said, “Everyone gets Blood Pressure by this age, it’s normal”.

Is it normal?

Absolutely not! Having high blood pressure and being on medication is not normal. It is a chronic disease with severe complications. It can progress to worse conditions. I am glad that you were shocked too at the client’s statement and do not consider it normal. I encourage you to change your belief in case you comply with the patient’s belief.

Complications of High Blood Pressure (Hypertension)

  1. Heart Damage ~ Heart is the most important organ of our body. We live till it functions, we die the moment it stops. It should be more important to us than diamonds, gold, salary, success at work, responsibilities etc.
  2. Kidney damage ~ Kidney cleans our blood, high pressure causes kidney damage. Kidney also has a renin-angiotensin system which regulates blood pressure. Hence post kidney damage, blood pressure goes out of control. Quite a vicious cycle.
  3. Stroke, Dementia and paralysis ~ Causes blood clot in brain which can cause damage which further leads to stroke and paralysis. Second important organ of our body is Brain. Entire system is controlled by an involuntary part of the brain. We become living dead once our brain stops functioning.
  4. Pregnancy complications ~ This is the most scary one for us. We only take care of ourselves when our precious baby is in danger.
  5. Sexual dysfunction ~ With high blood pressure becoming normal for people, no wonder IVF centers are rising in numbers.
  6. Vision loss ~ High blood pressure can damage any organ as blood passes every nook and corner of our organ systems including eyes.

What to do?

 Take the help of medicines!

Medicines are to support your system. If your diet and lifestyle doesn’t support it, medicines will not help. The above conditions are caused in spite of medications.

  1. Dash diet ~ It is a high fiber, high potassium, low fat, low salt, balanced diet which helps hypertension patients to manage their blood pressures
  2. Physical activity ~ Heart has to work harder in the absence of physical activity hence blood pressure rises. Be Physically Active.
  3. De-stress ~ Stress has direct connection with heart, and heart has direct connection with blood pressure, now join the dots.
  4. Adequate water ~ I have personally seen not drinking adequate water causes high blood pressure even in kids.
  5. Drop Alcohol, Smoke, Drugs, Excess caffeine ~ I think everyone knows this one correct.
  6. Keep gap of at least 2 hours between sleep and dinner
  7. Sleep and eat on time

Easier said than done

I copied a quote from Rabindranath Thakur ji and it is as follows, “It is simple to be healthy but it is difficult to be simple”.

It is easy to write what is to be done in 7 sentences, but it takes great effort to bring such habits into practice. Sometimes we are confused about where to begin. All you need is an efficient counselor who can guide you for initial times, then you can continue with the learnt practices and keep yourself healthy for life.

One in 4 people in India have hypertension. It stays with you, forever. A 2022 study showed in India 35% of children aged 10 to 12 and 25% of those aged 13 to 19 had stage 1 or 2 hypertension. People already consider it normal. Wake up, let’s make it abnormal again. If  you need help, Contact me now.
